The Chinese will be celebrating their 15 days New Year starting from 12.00 midnight 26th of January to 9th February 2009. The first day is a very auspicious and important festival day for the Chinese to follow because this is the beginning of the first day of the lunar year. The Chinese strictly observed that this day nothing mustn’t goes wrong. In the belief bad luck will follow throughout the rest of the year if something bad happened on the first day, or during the remaining fourteen days celebrations period.

As followers to the ancient customs and cultures, handling down for generations, we need to see to various ‘Cannot’ during this time; such as, we cannot sweep the floor, wash the hair, clip finger nails, use scissors or needle to mend clothes, quarrel, cry, or use vulgar words. If any of these actions happen, bad luck will falls to the family concern. So, it is always the parents will remind their children to keep the harmonies in the family and respects the forbidden actions during the first day of New Year.
