Hi Humalien,
To get personal element, it can be calculated from the Ba Zi of the individual. By getting the overall Heavenly Stem/ Earthly Branch from the year, month, day and time born, only the life element can be known. The Element from this calculation, you can understand what is suitable or unsuitable for you, in career, colors and so on. But in general, from the common understanding you can also get the calculated Qua element from the year you born. Refer to the article on 'How to Calculate your Qua Number' in this website or from my e-book.' Year 2010 Tiger Geng Yin Complete Manual'.
Besides, in every sign of the Chinese twelves zodiac they do belong to either Yin or Yang and also with the five elements on them.
If you are :- Rat-water, Tiger-wood, Dragon-earth, Horse-fire, Monkey-metal or Dog-earth you are Yang,
and if you are Cow-earth, Rabbit-wood, Snake-fire, Sheep-earth, Rooster-metal and Pig-water then you are Yin.
Happy reading!!
